FAQs

How old does my child need to be to start?
Children can join our year-round program starting at age 2. Stay tuned for more information about our Infant-Toddler Program for ages 6 weeks to 2 years, focusing on respectful, nurturing care to support natural development (coming soon).
Are you open year-round?
Yes! We offer continued enrollment through the summer for families who would like to keep their children enrolled year-round.
Are you a religious program? Do I need to be a member?
Our program is secular, rooted in the community outreach mission of the Westwood Presbyterian Church, which provides additional support and resources. We celebrate diversity by creating an inclusive environment where every family’s culture and traditions are valued. While church membership is not required, members do receive priority enrollment.
When do I enroll? Can I start mid-year?
We’re happy to welcome new families mid-year whenever space is available! Simply submit an inquiry, and our enrollment team will reach out when your child is age-eligible to start or during our open enrollment.
Can I have a mixed schedule?
Yes, a mixed schedule is available upon request.
Do you offer a two or 3 day option?
No, school five days a week gives children the chance to grow and thrive through consistent learning experiences. It also helps them develop meaningful friendships, build confidence in social settings, and feel secure in a regular, loving routine.
Can I pay my tuition online?
Yes, you can view invoices in your portal at the start of each month. Payments can be made by check, or by credit card or echeck (with a 3% fee for cards and a $1 fee for e-checks). Auto-payment options and tax statements with our tax ID are also available.
Do you offer financial aid or tuition assistance?
We strive to make our tuition affordable and accessible for all families. Our non-profit preschool has a financial assistance program to support families on a needs-based system.
Are there any extra fees?
There is no fee to apply, but a yearly enrollment fee is required upon acceptance. Additional charges include a monthly fee for children in diapers, optional afternoon enrichment classes, and late pick-up fees.
How will I know what my child is working on?
We’re committed to keeping you connected to your child’s growth and experiences. Teachers share weekly photo updates and bimonthly posts through a secure system, and you’re always welcome to visit the classroom to see the work in progress. Each year, families participate in two conferences to discuss emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development, with additional meetings available upon request. If needed, the director can join to ensure meaningful collaboration. We ask families to keep us informed about changes in your child’s life so we can provide the care and support they need.
What if there is an emergency?
Our top priority is ensuring your child’s safety in any situation. We’re fully equipped with emergency supplies, including food, water, and first aid provisions, to care for children on-site for up to 72 hours if needed. We conduct monthly safety drills and regularly review our protocols. All staff are trained in our emergency procedures to keep everyone prepared.
Am I required to volunteer?
Parent involvement in our school is extremely important to us. You can assist on-site or from home, we offer flexible opportunities to match your schedule, and we’re grateful for every contribution that helps our community thrive.
How do you help children resolve conflicts?
Learning to navigate conflicts is an important part of growing up, and our teachers are here to guide children through these moments with care and understanding. They help children develop problem-solving skills while managing emotions and interactions positively. Our partnership approach ensures all conflicts are resolved in a supportive and constructive way, fostering growth for every child involved.
Do you provide snacks or lunch?
We provide healthy snacks each morning and afternoon, along with filtered water throughout the day. Families pack lunches with ice packs for perishables. If your child has dietary needs or allergies, please share them with us. We’re happy to help!
What if my child has an allergy?
We’re experienced in supporting children with food and environmental allergies and strive to create a safe and inclusive environment. Families are welcome to review and approve snacks from our list to ensure their child isn’t exposed to allergens. We’re also well-versed in using nebulizers and other tools to meet your child’s individual needs with care and attention.
Are you a nut-free school?
We allow nuts and products made with nuts in school, but we take allergies very seriously. If a child in a class has a severe allergy, we’ll notify families and make appropriate adjustments so the environment is safe for all.
What if my child is in diapers?
At WPC Preschool, we support children as they learn to toilet independently, following their development. Parents provide disposable diapers and wipes, while we supply the necessary materials for safe and hygienic diapering. A monthly diapering fee is added to the tuition for children still in diapers.
What if my child is sick?
To protect everyone, children must stay home for 24 hours without medication after symptoms like fever 100 degrees or over, vomiting, diarrhea, or certain conditions (e.g., pink-eye, lice) have subsided or been treated. If a child becomes sick at school, we have a 30-minute pickup window.
What holidays are you closed?
The preschool is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:00pm. The school is closed for several holidays, including but not limited to Labor Day, Veterans Day, three days at Thanksgiving, ten days for winter break, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, July 4th, Junetenth, six days for spring break, Staff Development Days, Conference Days and two shortened days. No refunds are given for holidays, illness, or family vacations.
Where do children transition after WPCP?
Children leave WPC Preschool ready to thrive in private, public, magnet, or charter schools. We guide families through the entire kindergarten process, from exploring options to applications. Whether you’re seeking traditional academic programs, religious schools, or progressive options, we’re committed to supporting your family and helping you find the best fit for your child.
What if my child has special needs or an IEP or is neurodiverse?
We are committed to supporting every child, including those with special needs, IEPs, or who are neurodiverse, within a nurturing and inclusive environment. Our team works closely with families to understand and meet each child’s unique needs. If it’s determined that our program cannot fully support a child, we will thoughtfully guide families toward resources and programs to help their child thrive.
Do you allow therapeutic companions?
We welcome therapeutic companions or behavior instructors to support children who benefit from one-on-one assistance, provided they are vetted. To respect privacy, we do not disclose who these instructors are supporting, but any concerns can be directed to the preschool director. We are proud to nurture an inclusive community that celebrates every child's unique needs, and we encourage families to model sensitivity and support for all children.
